10/1 Sun, T., Sivaraman, M., & Sun, Y. (2025). Repeat after you: Contingent vocal imitation increases children’s vocalizations and orienting responses. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1–13. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70036
Contingent vocalization increased spontaneous echoics in children (generally found to be true and a best practice with infants and toddlers), and contingent imitation increased orienting -- an interesting finding
Jones, S. H., Catalano, M. Jr., Abuin, S., Haliwa, I., & Switzer, E. (2025). Variable-time schedules protect against effects of fidelity errors during noncontingent reinforcement. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1–11. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70034
Omission errors (e.g., failing to provide reinforcement when it should be) are typically less serious than commission errors, but still -- this is a simple and brilliant solution to avoiding the impact of omission errors
Stephens, M. J., Wessel, M. A., Melanson, I. J., & Kranak, M. P. (2025). A concise review of social validity assessments during functional analyses of challenging behavior. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1–10. https://doi.org/10.1002/jaba.70031

Behavioral Interventions *
9/30 Hoffmann, Audrey N., and Megan A. Boyle. 2025. “ A Survey of Expert Decision-Making in Functional Analysis Methodology,” Behavioral Interventions: e70045. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70045.
Functional analyses are important, but few report doing them. 15 experts were surveyed, and gave input on various considerations, including selecting various FA types
10/1 Falligant, John M., Sacha T. Pence, Hastings Sears, and Nadratu N. Nuhu. 2025. “ Enhancing Group-Based Training to Promote Incidental Teaching and Differential Reinforcement in Inclusive Classrooms.” Behavioral Interventions: e70042. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70042.
“Active engagement” (incidental teaching & reinforcement) was taught to a group of 7 educators using BST, with later in situ feedback for those that did not master the skills. Most required the in situ feedback to reach mastery, but the skills were maintained for 20 weeks
Groom-Sheddler, Samantha, Raymond Miltenberger, and Rasha Baruni. 2025. “ Evaluating Video Self-Modeling to Teach Medication Safety Skills to Children With Autism,” Behavioral Interventions: e70047. https://doi.org/10.1002/bin.70047.
Video self-modeling (where the subject watches video of themselves correctly performing a skill) has been effective with gun safety skills; this study tested it with 3 autistic subjects. It was effective for 1, while the other 2 required in situ feedback
Behavior and Social Issues
9/28 Biglan, A. Children Under Siege: How Dismantling Government is Harming Children and What You Can Do About It. Behav. Soc. Iss. (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s42822-025-00224-6
(Open access) Anthony Biglan suggests: 1) telling stories that illustrate harms, and publicizing them; 2) form “action circles,” a group of 8-12 individuals who can engage in community action such as teaching how to engage in nonviolent resistance
Zilio, D. Are we Asking the Right Questions in Culturo-Behavior Science?. Behav. Soc. Iss. (2025). https://doi.org/10.1007/s42822-025-00223-7

Using the FAST, a computer-based task where participants respond quickly to stimuli, experiment 1 found that in 98 participants, women had a pro-woman bias, and in experiment 2, 52 participants had an anti-black bias but self-reported a pro-black bias

“Results indicate that using white noise standard deviation is preferable compared to the residual standard deviation when autocorrelation is present, regardless of the estimation procedure.” If we’re known for anything around here, it’s that we prefer white noise standard deviation when autocorrelation is present

Millions of seniors lose access to telehealth services in wake of shutdown
To access telehealth as a senior on Medicare, you have to now be 1) in a “designated” rural area, and 2) be in a Medicare-approved office space. Obviously this is intended to eliminate this service for most people. Telehealth may not be a feasible business in the near future.
Accidentally behavior analysis
A mainstream news article that relates to behavior analysis
A former CDC director’s guide to seeing and stopping threats to America’s health, STATNews
In a Vaccineless™ American Experience® brought to you by MrBeast® FEASTABLES™, you might be concerned with “ending universal hepatitis B birth-dose vaccination” if you continue to live. Some guy thinks the following steps will be effective:
See the invisible and make it visible (people are not aware of hep B infections & how serious they are)
Believe in the possibility of change (smoking was once viewed as impossible to change)
Create simple solutions at scale (such as…a birth-dose vaccination…?)
This reminds us of an excellent article with the subtitle “Effective Treatment is Not Enough.” Similar (and better) steps from that article include:
Establish intermediate outcomes as reinforcing
Skill complexity
Disestablish competing social approval as a reinforcer
Continuing education

Flashback
A Pavlov institute…in Michigan?
We came across an article that offhandedly mentioned “Boldirev” as the director of the Pavlov institute at the infamous Battle Creek Sanitarium (famously parodied in the novel/film The Road to Wellville). A handful of references to “Boldirev” appear in the historical record, as he was one of over 100 people who worked in Pavlov’s lab. One source pegs him as “W.N. Boldirev.” Transliteration of Russian names sometimes substitutes “W” for “V” (as in “Pawlow”). Could this be “Wladimir Boldirew”? No; we happened to find an article by “W.N. Boldyreff,” an unexpected transliteration, associated with the Battle Creek Sanitarium.
The Battle Creek Sanitarium released a kind of newsletter/scientific journal; Boldyreff wrote articles in some of them. This was shaping up to be an article in its own right, until you look at what Boldyreff was publishing:
So, “Pavlov” in the sense of literal physiology. This is surely interesting to someone out there, but gastric secretions are not our primary focus (yet).
